Mid American Hard Body Stock Car Series Rules

Our mission: To promote a simple and consistent scale racing environment that is supported by local racers, local manufactures, and local raceways. The intent is not to make drastic rule or operations changes from season to season. Rules will be updated at the end of each season as needed.

 

Racers are separated into heat races based upon skill level at monthly series races. Points are awarded by overall laps. 1st/20pts, 2nd/18, 3rd/16, 4th/15, 5th/14, 6th/13, 7th/12, 8th/10. 9th place and below get 9 points.

 

Regular series races will be 2 minute heats with 2 minute intermissions. Repairs can be made under green flag or during intermission. Championship races may be 3 minute heats with move ups depending on the event.

 

Race participants must also marshal in order to be awarded points in series racing. Failure to marshalll or provide a substitute may result in a forfeit of points for that day.

 

All rules listed here are subject to the spirit of intent. The tech director has the final say, but may address issues with other board members when an issue comes up.

 In addition to tech at the moment of sign in before a race, post tech will be performed at Series races. Top finisher of each main, and top 3 overall will go through body off tech.

 

Everyone can participate in this series. $20 Membership and race participation in at least 2 series races per season gives you a voice in how the series operates. Your voice can be used in the form of proposal forms, and proposals will be voted on by the membership once a year.

 

 Code of conduct.

Anyone is allowed to participate in this public series, but all are expected to act in a sportsman like manner.

Yelling at Marshalls is prohibited. 1 lap race penalty will be enforced for each offense.

Yelling at other drivers during a race will result in a 1 lap penalty. If two racers are yelling at each other, They both get the penalty.

Dramatic outbursts such as throwing cars, controllers, slamming doors, etc that are a distraction from the event will result in disqualification and no points awarded for that day in any class.

Threatening language. Direct threats or language that can be perceived as a physical threat to anyone at our events will result in disqualification, no points awarded for that day in any class, and a 3 event suspension.

Physical threats/ violence. You are banned indefinitely from this series. Any lawful charges pressed upon you are your problem and in no way can the Mid American Hardbody series or participating Raceway be held accountable.

Theft. If you are found stealing from anyone in this series, you are banned indefinitely. Any lawful charges upon you are your problem.

 

Chassis definitions for future parts submissions: Must be available to participating commercial raceways in base or kit form for $50 retail or less.

Materials of construction are Brass, carbon steel, stainless steel, or tempered spring steel.

Must be stamped, CNC, or laser cut. Chassis are to be designed with no moving or mechanical parts.

No scratch builder kits intended to be scratch built or repurposed Retro, Drag kits, etc. Chassis should be ready to compete for those that do not possess scratch building skills.

Wheelbase is 4.5". Shorter and longer wheelbase options may be integrated into the design.

Chassis are to be designed for the purpose of hard body racing with a motor tab of the base material, front and rear axle uprights of the base material, guide flag of the base material, and body mounts of the base material designed with the specific purpose of mounting plastic model body shells. Chassis are to be designed where allowable modifications made are perfomed with the use of solder and bare metal materials only. Any parts submitions or alterations must be voted on.

Manufacturers are expected to support and participate in the Mid American Hardbody Series. Failure to do so may result in parts being phased out over the course of a season

1) Hobbystock (novice)

1. Rules are similar in technical measurements to the Superstock division.

2. 1940- 1962 full size American models that are available in plastic kit form.

3. Motor: Proslot 4001S (purple seal)

4. Gearing 7/33

5. Tires: B&E Front and rear.

6. Roof height is 1-7/8". Disregard the door line for this class only.

7. For Official series races, This class is intended for entry level racers, racers that have never won a Commercial Slot car race point series, or a Championship race held at a commercial raceway. The only exception is that Mid American Amatuer/Novice Nats winners may participate in this class. A racer may participate in both Hobbystock and Superstock, but you will only be allowed to score points in the Hobbystock divison. All participants in Ponystock will score points for that class.

2) Body rules for Super Stock and Pony Stock: (see approved body list at the bottom of   these rules)

1. The guide flag should not be visible when looking down at the car on the tech block.

2. For the Superstock Division, Roof height is measured from the tech block with a minimum of 1 7/8”.

3. Ponystock Division roof height is 1-13/16"

4. No thinning of bodies will be allowed. Bodies must fall between .040 and .050 minimum thickness. Any sanding or file marks visible at post tech inside the body will result in disqualification.

5. Exceptions: door handles, emblems, and window trim May be sanded off for short track appearance.

6. Bumpers must be the original kit bumper, substituted from another kit, or from Plastruct or Evergreen brand  material. No other substitutions will be allowed.

7. Firewalls or body mount posts may be removed from the inside of the body.

8. Kit windows May be replaced with a minimum of .010 Lexan. Must be full windows, and remain in place during competition. Windows must be left clear.

9. Front grills, front fascia, and rear fascia May be drilled out, or replaced with a plastic or fabric mesh.

10. Tail lights, headlights, mirrors May be deleted as these parts usually come off easily.

11. Original door lines must be visible. Do not lower the bodies any further than the door line.

12. Wheel wells are to be “hogged out” upon the original body wheel centers.

13. Bodies are to be painted a minimum of one color, with three painted or decal numbers in a scale appearing fashion.

14. Bodies are to have a three dimensional, painted interior with a driver figure mounted in an upright, scale appearing fashion. Chassis or powertrain components must not be visible when veiwing through the windows. No Paper printed interiors.

15. Styrene or Plastruct reinforcement is allowed inside the body.

16. No velcro body mounting. bodies must be secured in at least one point on each side with the use of pins or clips.  May be secured with additional tape during the race.

17. Side dams are not allowed. A rear spoiler with a maximum of ¼” is allowed of lexan or plastruct material.

18. A "chin" spoiler may be used below the front bumper. No side dams or concave shapes.

19. Altered wheelbase, concept, convertible, and t-top, bodies are not allowed.                                                    

20. Body must stay on during the race. Track power will not be turned off to re mount a body.

13. Chassis may be cut and extended to match the wheel base, narrowed for better fit of the model body, or (in the case of a womp) widened with the use of Brass plate and wire. Chassis cut free from their original kit form must have restrained movement via Piano wire soldered parallel to the sides of the motor, or perpendicular to the front of the motor directly under the end bell.

14. For safety of tracks, marshalls, and other cars, sides of the chassis must be trimmed cleanly. No more than .250 exposed material allowed measured from the outermost point of the  door. A hole may be drilled to oil the front of the motor.

15. Bushing position may be raised and soldered in place. Bracing with piano wire and brass tube is allowed.

16. Chassis must be of rigid soldered construction. No moving parts or screws allowed with the exception of floating pin tube body mounts.

17. No hinges, slides, bite bars, up stops, down stops, chatter pans, etc.

18. Motor bracket and guide tongue must be centered upon the chassis. 
    Body mounts can be offset for oval racing.

19. Width is 3-1/4” or less, maximum 1/8” staggered tires allowed for oval racing. .032 clearance under the front axle, .050 clearance under the rear axle.

20. An aftermarket motor bracket may be used to replace the original motor bracket or Motor tab.

21. Cars may not drag on the track at any point.

22. Lead weight may be added on the top side of the chassis only.

23. Tape may be used on top or under the chassis.

 

4) Axles:

1. 1/8” minimum rear, 3/32” minimum front

2. No bearings allowed

3. No hollow axles

4. Independent fronts allowed.

5. Front tires must be in the upright, 90 degree position

5) Gears:

1. 7 tooth pinions, 48 pitch only. Any Crown for SS and PS. No drilling or modifying gears.

2. Inline configuration only. Pinion and gear are to be centered upon the original chassis bracket.

 

6) Motors:

1. For Series points racing, the Proslot 4002 FK must be used and seals must remain intact.

2. Brushes and springs can be changed.

3. Endbell hardware may be aligned.

4. The Claimer rule is $20. Any racer in the top 8 can claim a motor of the top 3 finishers if they feel it has been illegally modified from stock form. The protest must be performed immediately after the race, $20 must be given to the person being protested, and the claimed motor must be removed from the car, pinion removed by the tech director or under the tech directors’ supervision.

5. Commercially available heat sinks allowed on motors.

 

 

7) Tires:

1. Minimum rear tire diameter is .950”

2. Max width .750

3. .950 diameter x .250 wide minimum fronts.

4. Approved rear tire and wheels are Pro Track #520, #N320, any B&E Slotsport rears.

5. Approved front tire and wheels are Pro Track #528, #329, #400, or B&E fronts

6. All wheels are to be 5/8" diameter hub.

  

For the live intersection figure 8 (or Unlimited class) the following will be allowed:

Chassis is of unlimited construction.

Body length, make and model is unlimited, but must be a plastic kit of a vehicle.

Gears and axles are unrestricted.

Air control devices and body modifications allowed.

General race rules specific to these classes:

If it’s not listed here, it’s not legal.

For the safety of turn marshalls and other racers, race cars that are damaged to the point of the chassis being exposed must pit and be repaired immediately with adhesive or tape.

Front and rear windows, front bumpers and grills must be repaired immediately.

Rear Bumpers must be repaired before the start of the next heat.

Riders, and unreachable cars are a track call.

Approved Bodies: (PS) indicates bodies legal for Pony Stock. (SS) indicates bodies legal for the Super Stock class. Bodies that measure over 8” and are not specifically listed here are most likely legal for Super stock. Ask the people that you race with.
